Leadership Spotlight: Julie Cox
ISS Administrative Search was proud to lead the Elementary Principal search for NOVA International School in North Macedonia. Congratulations to Julie Cox for accepting the position, beginning August 2022! She is currently the Elementary School Principal at the American International School of Abuja, Nigeria.
Julie holds a BA in Education from Oregon State University and MA in Curriculum & Instruction from Seattle Pacific University. She is also a Specialist in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, University of Washington. Her previous experiences have taken her to the American Community School, Jordan; American School of Bombay, India; and North Beach Elementary, USA.

What drew you to pursue the world of education? And what drew you into international education specifically?
I was drawn to education because of my love and care for children. It’s been an honor these past thirty years teaching and growing the minds of young people. I feel I have made a positive difference in the world. It begins with a belief in children.
Congratulations on your new position at the NOVA International School! What excites you about being in this new role and school? What are your hopes?
I’m excited to learn along with and support the elementary division as they take their standards-based school into the PYP Framework.

Please tell us about your education philosophy and your leadership style. What can your new community expect?
I believe that learners (age 3-93) do their best when the feel a strong connection to the community, and when they feel valued, heard, are cared for. The more diverse our perspectives, styles, and backgrounds, the better we will be as a collective.

What is an interesting fact or story about you that you would like to share?
My 15 year old daughter is a master at making cakes. I never taught her how to make them but what ever type she makes, folks rave and rave. She also has a bagel business! She is my pride and joy!
